Topic:	The Nexus 5000 Series - The Cisco Nexus 5000 Series is designed for data centers transitioning to 10 Gigabit Ethernet as well as those ready to deploy a unified fabric that can handle their LAN, SAN, and server clusters. The switch family, using cut-through architecture, supports line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet on all ports while maintaining consistently low latency independent of packet size and services enabled. It supports a set of network technologies known collectively as IEEE Data Center Bridging (DCB) that increases the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of Ethernet networks. These features allow the switches to support multiple traffic classes over a lossless Ethernet fabric, thus enabling consolidation of LAN, SAN, and cluster environments. Its ability to connect FCoE to native Fibre Channel protects existing storage system investments while dramatically simplifying in-rack cabling.

CCNA Security Part 3: Lab Requirements Is CCNA Security a Great Step with a Small Budget?

If you're buying gear on a budget, then CCNA Security may be for you. As difficult as I think the IINS exam's theory might be - at least relative to my original expectations - the lab requirements may make up for it. You can practice all the router features effectively with only 2 routers; most can be practiced with a single router. Only a few of the features require a switch, and a single switch at that. Add your existing PC to the mix run SDM and to run a TACACs+/RADIUS server, and you have enough gear with which to practice. Or go the $0 cost route: take the plunge into Dynamips, ignore practice with the switch features, and use your existing PC.

CCIE R&S Certification v 4.0 Exams Now Available

Effective October 19, 2009 Cisco CCIE® Routing and Switching v4.0 certification exams are now available in all VUE testing locations worldwide. The competencies required for CCIE R&S v4.0 certification can be found on the Cisco Learning Network under CCIE R&S v4.0 written exam topics and CCIE R&S v4.0 lab exam topics in the CCIE R&S section of the site.

Both the written and lab exams have been refreshed with new questions covering MPLS and VPN networking. The written exam includes new scenario-based questions. The lab exam now requires hands-on troubleshooting of preconfigured networks, in addition to configuration. Exam duration and pricing will remain the same, with the two-hour written exam at USD $350.00 and the eight-hour lab at USD $1400.00

Looking for a job in security? NASA may be your new home.

NASA network security torched GAO says NASA has been successfully targeted by cyber attacks 1,120 times in the past two years and significant holes still remain. While NASA may be focused on keeping its manned space flight plans intact, apparently it has seriously neglected the security of its networks.

Watchdogs at the Government Accountability Office issued a 53-page report pretty much ripping the space agency's network security strategy stating that NASA has significant problems protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the information and variety of networks supporting its mission centers. Specifically, NASA did not consistently implement effective controls to prevent, limit, and detect unauthorized access to its networks and systems. The GAO said NASA did not identify and authenticate users; restrict user access to systems; encrypt network services and data; protect network boundaries; and monitor computer-related events.
