Required Materials

For the written exam, we will use the General Knowledge blueprint, http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/ccie/sp/knowledge_blueprint.html, as our study guide.  Members will determine their own books and web articles for study.  Members will divide into specific service area groups and follow the corresponding blueprint for their service area portion of the exam.

For the lab exam, we will evaluate different vendor’s lab workbooks until we decide on the best material.  We will negotiate a group discount.  More information will be given out in the group meetings.

Optional Materials

If you do not have a resource for the General Knowledge blueprint, the CCIE Routing and Switching Official Exam Certification Guide, Second Edition (Geier, Mehta, Odom, ISBN# 1587201410) looks like a good reference.

Outline We will meet twice a month to provide ample time for studying between meetings and spending time on more important pursuits.  In return, group members are expected to be prepared for meetings.  Fewer meetings with preparation will work better than just a lot of meetings.

How fast the group proceeds depends upon the members.  We may even divide into two groups if we are at different levels.  We will work in 3 phases:  (1) studying the technologies for the written, (2) mastering the technologies with mini-labs, and (3) putting it all together with 8-hour mock labs.  Each member will have an opportunity to practice some portion of a lab during each group meeting.  We will not proceed to #3 until we have mastered #2.

Members in this group are expected to contribute to the group in some way (present material, create study resources, share lab equipment, volunteer for tasks, etc.). A desire to thoroughly know the technology and equipment is a must.

Please do not attend if your desire is to look for short cuts or violate NDA with regard to exam material.  This group will seek to master the topics and be an expert worthy of the certification.

Discussion during the group meetings will be encouraged and each member will show respect and professionalism to others.  Members are expected to be prepared and engage in high-level discussion.

Comments We will need a meeting room for the meetings. The room will need an Internet connection for access to remote racks, an overhead projector to display the telnet sessions and Cisco documentation, and a white board for diagrams and discussion.
Notes Please contact the study group leader listed above to be added to the CCIE Service Provider Written/Lab Study Group.
